I love the angle you chose for the beetle! Somehow having it rear up like that gives it scale. Great rendering of metallic textures on both bugs. I think you found a good balance in the amount of detail you put into the exoskeleton and hinting at the machinery in the underside (particularly in the first bug). The lightning is a nice touch, too. Great stuff Andrew.
Andrew, great job with getting organic shapes and using the coloring to make the vehicles seem more machine-like! They have a nice chrome-like shininess, it's a good touch. I also like the way you incorporated the weapons so that they're more like a part of the vehicles than attachments, but it still looks like they could be replace if they were damaged. One tiny thing I'd suggest is moving the beetle's left arm a little lower on the plane to make it seem like it's a little closer to us. And for the ant lion--are the machines on its back symmetrical? Are there the orange-lined parts on the other side of the main cannon? If there are, I think we'd be able to see them on the other side a little bit (due to the angle the rest of the ant-lion is at). I'm not sure if I explained that right, but I just feel like the main cannon on the ant lion's back is a little off center, or not at the same angle as the rest of the ant lion... But great job with the rest.
I am diggin' the rhino beetle, the dividing plates read well and I think you used highlights to describe the surface of the shell really well. The back legs might be a little too far forward, it looks like he might fall backwards. Good job on the ant lion too, I really like how the legs look to be reinforced with armor. The cannon on his back looks a little off center though.
Rhinoceros bettle is lookin good! Possibly making the very back legs thicker and more of a anchor would help with the feel of mass and stability. Otherwise awesome job!
I think these are super cool! I like how your that your bugs match and feel they are in the same world. The cannon tech sells that the most. I think your Beatle is the strongest of the two, because it feels sturdy and it reads perfectly. One suggestion is that they look a little flat. I would elongate the shadow of the ant lion to the left more and some contrast to things that are closer to the view. Other that this is pure awesomeness!
